Bismuth, Labradorite & Swarovski Crystal Steampunk Pendant in Bronze (STMBSM41)

This handcrafted steampunk pendant was made with a generously-sized bismuth crystal, wrapped in bronze-enameled copper wire and features upcycled vintage watch parts, brass beads, genuine Swarovski crystal and labradorite stone. This is a large pendant, measuring 52x50x26mm (2.0" x 2.0" x 1.0") and comes suspended on an 18" long chain. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece, since each and every bismuth crystal is unique and it was wrapped to echo the dimensions and morphology of the crystal. Vivid, rich colors! Ethereal yellow, green, turquoise and blue hues dance across the steps of the crystal as it turns in the light.

Our pendants are made to last. We wire-wrap all of our bismuth crystals to protect them from damage. Drilling weakens the structural integrity of the crystal & subjects it to shattering, while gluing can crack off, or shield areas of the crystal surface from exposure to the atmosphere, which is crucial to allowing the surface to oxidize in a natural way over time. The wire will also age over time to add further character as it is worn.

Bismuth is naturally a silvery-white color as a fresh crystal but acquires it's colorful, iridescent surface due to it's exposure to air and oxidation of it's surface. The spiral stair stepped structure of a bismuth crystal is the result of a higher growth rate around the outside edges than on the inside edges. The variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the crystal causes different wavelengths of light to interfere upon reflection, thus displaying a rainbow of colors. WOW!

Your pendant will arrive in a lovely gift box and ship securely in a padded envelope with international tracking direct from my studio to your chosen destination.
