Wire-Wrapped Coober Pedy Australian Opal Pendant Necklace in Tarnish-Resistant Sterling Silver with Rainbow Moonstone

This gorgeous, handcrafted pendant was made with a flashy Australian opal doublet (from Coober Pedy), set in solid Sterling silver wire with glowing, rainbow moonstone beads, set in delicate herringbone weaves. The wire was also coated in a layer of clear lacquer to preserve the glossy finish of the silver and resist tarnish over time. This piece comes suspended on an 18" Sterling silver chain and measures 35x19x13mm (1.4" x 0.7" x 0.5"). This is a one-of-a-kind item and there won't ever be another like it!

Coober Pedy is located about 850km north of the city of Adelaide, in northern South Australia and nicknamed the "opal capital of the world" due to the enormous quantity of precious opals mined there. Opals were first discovered in Coober Pedy in 1915 and today, it is the largest opal mining area in the world. The name derives from the aboriginal term, "kupa-piti" , which roughly translates to the phrase, "white man's hole".
