Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice Wire-Wrapped Pendant in Tarnish-Resistant Sterling Silver with Peridot

From the depths of space to the palm of your hand, this lovely, handcrafted pendant was made with a slice of the Muonionalusta meteorite, wrapped in genuine Sterling silver wire and sparkling, gem-quality faceted peridot beads, set in delicate herringbone weaves. The wire was also coated in a clear lacquer, to resist tarnish and preserve the finish. This pendant, measures 36x24x13mm (1.4" x 0.9" x 0.5") and comes suspended on an 18" Sterling silver chain. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece and there will never be another like it!

The Muonionalusta meteorite is a fine octahedrite IVA iron meteorite, which fell about a million years ago, just west of the border between modern-day Finland and Sweden. The first fragment was discovered in 1906 near the village of Kitkiöjärvi and since then, others were found in a 25x15km (15.5x9.3 mi) strewn field in the Pajala district of Norrbotten County, ~140km (87 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. This meteorite most likely originated from the iron core or mantle of a planetoid, which shattered as it fell to Earth.

The unique criss-cross texture on the surface of this meteorite slice is what is known as a " Widmanstätten pattern " and consists of tightly packed nickel-iron crystals. The pattern becomes visible when meteorites are cut, polished and acid-etched (to remove excess polish and dirt).

Your pendant will arrive in a lovely gift box and ship securely in a padded envelope with insurance and international tracking direct from my studio to your chosen destination. Makes a great gift for the space enthusiast in your life!

*Iron meteorites contain significant amounts of nickel so if you have an allergy or sensitivity to this metal, you should not wear, or handle this item.

**Coins are shown for scale and will not be included with the jewelry.
