Ammonite Fossil Wire-Wrapped Pendant in Tarnish-Resistant Sterling Silver with Aquamarine (FAPSS8)

This gorgeous, woven-wire pendant is composed of a sliced ammonite fossil, polished on the open face to show the internal compartments, lovingly cradled in solid Sterling silver wire. The wire was also coated in a clear lacquer to resist tarnish. Faceted gem-quality aquamarine beads cascade down the sides, as if riding water currents feeding into a wave of foamy, silver water. The outer shell of the ammonite on the back of the pendant was left in it's natural state with a slight iridescent sheen and natural cavities were preserved in their original, hollow state. The pendant comes suspended on an 18" Sterling silver chain and measures 52x37x21mm (2.0" x 1.5" x 0.8").

Ammonites are extinct marine molluscs, most closely related to modern octopi, squids and, to a lesser extent, nautiloids. The word, “ammonite”, was inspired by the spiral shape of their shells. Originally, they were called ammonis cornua ("horns of Ammon") because this Egyptian god was typically depicted wearing ram's horns. It is thought ammonites inhabited ancient shallow seas and succumbed to the same mass extinction responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs. This fossil was found in Madagascar.

Rugged, organic and gorgeous, this pendant truly reflects the raw beauty of nature's finest treasures. Your pendant will arrive in a lovely gift box and ship securely in a padded envelope with international tracking and insurance from my studio to your chosen destination.
